Wild clear Zach Parise Jersey to make regular-season debut

Minnesota Wild left wing Zach Parise has been cleared to make his season debut after missing the first 39 games because of back trouble.

Parise told reporters after practice on Monday afternoon that he got the green light to play for the Wild on Tuesday night against Florida. Parise skated on a line with Charlie Coyle and Chris Stewart. He played in one game on a conditioning assignment last week for the Wild’s AHL affiliate in Iowa.

It’s been a great ride 鈥?Arizona’s win in Seattle was Arians’ 50th with the Cardinals and, as he moves away from coaching, it’s best to give him the last word. It’s been a great ride, Arians said at his announcement. Nobody who has observed his career as both a coordinator and a head coach could disagree with that assessment of his time in the game.

The 78-year-old Snyder led the Wildcats to five wins in the final six games, including a Cactus Bowl victory over UCLA.

Quarterback issues still managed to be their Achilles’ heel. Palmer going down for the season in 2014 and ’17, Palmer throwing a bushel of picks in the NFC title game in ’15, a week after the epic overtime playoff win over the Packers. Yet the Cardinals’ present dilemma is not Palmer, who was worth the gamble. It’s replacing Palmer and finishing the job he and Arians started.

The only quarterback they drafted during the Arians era, Logan Thomas, is now a tight end. Drew Stanton has been a valued backup for four years, and he turns 34 this year. Ryan Lindley, who unfortunately inherited the gig in ’14, is out of the game. Blaine Gabbert was at the controls for five starts this year.

Ideally, the Cardinals will find a combo that works the way Arians and Palmer did 鈥?but if that was so easy, more teams would have those combos in place.
